Xiomaro’s photograph, John Leguizamo’s Latin History for Morons is on view in Galerie Seippel’s group exhibition.  The photograph is part of the artist’s collection documenting candid urban life, much of which will be published by Fonthill Media for his book Street Photography of New York City.

The image is of a window reflecting a digital billboard across the street in Times Square, New York City, advertising a Broadway play by John Leguizamo, the famous stand-up comedian and actor.  Leguizamo’s one-man show humorously explores 3,000 years of Latin history to find heroes for his bullied son’s school project, delving into themes of identity, family, and the overlooked contributions of Latin cultures.

The photograph has a special connection for Xiomaro who experienced bullying and parsed similar questions as a life-long New Yorker and musician of Cuban-Puerto Rican descent.  “Back when I was an entertainment attorney, many of the singers, songwriters, and producers I represented in the Latin Freestyle music scene also encountered these issues.  It was especially conspicuous when I managed the pop star Lisa Lisa,” explains the artist.  These themes are expressed on a broader scale in Xiomaro’s abstract street photography series, Identity, which is represented by Haze Gallery in Berlin, Germany.  The inclusion of such images in the artist’s body of work places these ideas in conversation with his extensive history-based photography of National Park sites.

Galerie Seippel is a prestigious gallery in the middle of Cologne making it a perfect location for the presentation of art.  Almost 200 exhibitions and projects have been shown at the gallery.  Events on music, literature, film, and theater also take place there.

The opening program is from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on March 7, 2025.  The closing ceremony is from 3:00 to 4:00 pm on March 15, 2025. The exhibition is presented by the Swiss Photo Club based in Geneva.  It is the largest such organization in Switzerland with clubs in Germany and Austria comprised of the best photographers in those nations.
