In yesterday’s post, I managed to get a photograph of a shadow to work even though someone stepped into the frame. I liked the result and when I found another interesting shadow, I decided to let passersby come within view.
The shadows are actually quite large. So it occurred to me that having someone in the picture helps convey a sense of scale.
For me, the photograph has a creepy, threatening, and mysterious vibe to it. Is the diminutive woman casting the shadow? Or is that someone behind her? What is she holding? Is it daytime or nighttime? Had you not known that it was my photograph, would you think it was taken decades ago? I like the questions raised when an image is inherently ambiguous.
