Galerie Renaissance, in the heart of Geneva’s beautiful Old Town, captures the essence of contemporary artistry by showcasing a diverse array of styles and techniques across two levels of curated exhibition space. The gallery’s thought-provoking exhibitions transcend conventional boundaries, inviting guests to embark on a journey of intellectual and emotional discovery.
Xiomaro’s New York City Shop Window will be on view as part of a group exhibition and presents his take on Manhattan’s chaos, claustrophobia, and crass commercialism. The photograph is part of his series showing how this dynamic is magnified in shop, office, and vehicular windows, bus shelters, and other reflective surfaces. Like a collage, the image reflects back our distorted consciousness about identity, alienation, societal expectations, and perceptions of the other in a competitive culture.
In capturing these ephemeral moments (without Photoshop, AI, or other manipulations), his photographs freeze urban scenes for examination in a way that cannot be appreciated in real time within the chaotic swirl of energy from which they were extracted. Accidental juxtapositions of symbols, colors, and layers of imagery present a hallucinatory world at the intersection of reality and abstraction. The surrealistic nature of the photograph propels one to resonate with private interpretations about the complexities of human existence buried within the mundane.
A private viewing of the show will take place from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm on February 13, 2025. The closing reception starts at 2:30 pm on February 22, 2025. The exhibition is presented by the Swiss Photo Club. It is the largest such organization in Switzerland and is comprised of the best photographers in the country.
