An image from the Times Square series by art photographer Xiomaro will be among the images on display at Millepiani in Rome, Italy. The 27½” x 19¾ inch print will be on view from April 23 to May 2, 2024 at the gallery’s Blurred Visions international group exhibition.
Only 9% of the 1,297 submissions were chosen for inclusion in the large-scale show. The organizers sought the best photographs of “lines, shapes and figures that are undefined and out of focus.” The works in the exhibition are united by aesthetic traits “that refer to the collective imagery and imagination, that recall personal experiences through memory and even works of conceptual value.”
Xiomaro’s photograph was first exhibited in 2023 as part of his solo exhibition, Street Haunting: Photographs Virginia Woolf Might Have Taken, at the Starlight Gallery in New Jersey’s Mayo Performing Arts Center. The image was created on November 7, 2018 on West 45th Street at Broadway without using any Photoshop, filters, AI, or other manipulations. “The crowds, the traffic, and the digital billboards of Times Square create a chaotic swirl of energy, he explains. “The technique of slow exposure captures that kinetic motion. The blur creates a relationship between the observer and the abstracted image in a way that provokes imagination and triggers the memory and emotions for private interpretations.”
