Theodore Roosevelt: "How I Love Sagamore Hill"

It's interesting to see how another photographer treats the same subject.  The black and white photographs here are from the Gottscho-Schleisner Collection at the Library of Congress.  Samuel Gottscho may perhaps be┬ábest known today for a posthumous exhibit and book entitled "The Mythic City:  Photographs of New York."  Gottscho also created a photographic series of Sagamore Hill in 1966.  I was not aware of his work until after I completed my series.  So I was delighted to find that we both were drawn to TR's Rough Rider portrait.  We both photographed the Library fireplace as well, though from opposing angles.  Even though there are still some furnishings in my images of the Library, its emptyness is truly appreciated when compared with Gottscho's photographs of the same space completely furnished.  The shelves are fully stocked with books in Gottscho's image whereas the shelves in mine (on the left side of the last photograph) are clearly bare.
