Named after one of the first settlers of Dorchester, Massachusetts, Lovell's Island is the site of several shipwrecks.
The island was also a fishing and trading site for Native Americans. Later Fort Standish (1902-1946) was constructed
and remained active during World Wars I and II. Today, the island is popular for camping, picnicing, light hiking
and those who wish to explore the ruins of the Fort and other structures.
