Weir Was Here - Secret Rooms, Doors and Windows

The photographs on these pages were culled from hundreds that were taken.  The first two pages feature photographs of
J. Alden Weir's house.  His painting studio appears on page 3 while photographs of Mahonri Young's sculpture studio are on page 4. The "titles" are more by way of identification and the numbers in parenthesis correspond to the ID numbers used in the floor plans created by the National Park Service.

In addition to documenting what the house looks like before the preservation process is complete, my goal is to reveal the nuances of its subtle beauty to viewers because a post-preservation tour may not afford the time or close proximity necessary to engage in a studied look.  And visitors may very well be overwhelmed by so much to see, just as I was during my first visit.

The photographs also suggest an intimacy with the occupants of the house, especially J. Alden Weir.  The same hands and eyes that created works of Impressionism also unlocked these doors, turned their knobs and opened the shutters to take in the inspiring landscape framed by the windows.
