This solo exhibit features 12 photographs from the first artistic collection documenting the beauty and textures of the interiors of the Weir House and Weir Studio, which are all presently closed to the public. Four of the 12 photographs were selected by the Senator's office and are on display in his conference room renamed the Weir Room.  Thanks to Senator Lieberman's efforts, Weir Farm was saved from bulldozers in 1980 and became part of the National Park Service -- Connecticut's first.

This series celebrates the beauty of American painter J. Alden Weir's homestead in Connecticut. Photographed during the first two weeks of March, the 12 images progress from the moody shadows of winter to the colorful hints of early spring.  Weir Farm, as described by its namesake, is indeed "The Great Good Place."  The portfolio also pays homage to the "spirit" of J. Alden Weir as his artistic styles in Realism, Tonalism and Impressionism were a subconscious source of inspiration for these photographic works.

Along with "Birch Bark," another 39 photos from other artists were also selected for the gallery exhibition from over 1,600 that were submitted.  In addition to being in the gallery exhibition, my photograph will also be exhibited on the Gallery's website and will be reproduced in a full-color catalogue available for purchase from Blurb Books.

The 12 photographs in FractalScapes highlight the natural and man-made shapes appearing in landscapes and urbanscapes.  This aesthetic for abstract, repetitive patterns was inspired by the cutting edge mathematics of fractal geometry and is on exhibit at Life Café.  If this establishment sounds familiar, it's because the last scene of Act 1 in Rent features Life Café (their East Village location), which is where Jonathan Larson wrote the Tony Award winning musical.

The 12 photographs in FractalScapes, highlight the natural and manmade patterns appearing in landscapes and urbanscapes.  This aesthetic for small, abstract, iterative design was inspired by mathematician Benoit Mandelbrot's theories on fractal geometry.

Weir Farm Art Center

Artist-In-Residence | March 2011

I am humbled to have been selected to be an Artist-In-Residence for the month of March 2011.

The Art Center selects 12 artists to live and work at Weir Farm each year.  Since 1998, artists from throughout the U.S., as well as Tunisia, Germany, Australia, India, South Africa and The Netherlands have participated.

Artist Studio Through a combination of restoration and new construction, the studio was recently designed based on the original barn that once stood there. All facilities and utilities are provided free of charge.  The studio is situated on the Weir Farm National Historic Site, a 60-acre national park.  Adjacent to the park is the 110 acre Weir Preserve, which consists of trails, wetlands, open fields and stone walls.

The surrounding landscape has been a source of inspiration for artists for more than 120 years. Three generations of artists -- American painter
Julian Alden Weir, sculptor Mahonri Young and painters Doris and Sperry Andrews -- made the farm their home from 1882 to 2005.

The month-long residency will conclude with an open studio exhibit of the work I produce at Weir, which will also be exhibited at the Wilton Library.  You can view the photos here and purchase prints here.

Weir Farm Art Center is located at 735 Nod Hill Road, Wilton, Connecticut 06897.
